How to build a case study
Case Study Studio gives you a few different ways to build, depending on what you’re starting from and how much you want to do yourself. Here’s each one, start to finish.
Single Narrative Development
Turn one set of source material into a single, genre-styled case study you can play in the browser.
- Upload your source (a reading, a case doc, a PDF/DOCX/TXT) and pick a genre, an audience level, and whether it’s existing material to adapt or course content to dramatize.
- Review the scenario brief — the case title, the learning outcomes, and the perspective the player takes.
- Set the Architect choices (the story’s driver, tone, the player’s role, and so on) — or let the app auto-pick them and build the rest for you.
- Work through the narrative build (the story’s DNA, characters, structure, and beats). Refine each step yourself, or let Auto-Build run the whole thing end to end.
- Generate — then play it in the viewer or download it.
You get: An interactive scenario you can play in the browser or download as a self-contained file.
- Auto-Build fills every step for you if you’d rather not step through them manually.
- Your uploaded source isn’t kept after you leave — download your project file to pick it back up later.
Full Semester Narrative
Build a whole course as one connected story — the same genre voice and cast across every chapter.
- Upload your case study (one or more files) and set the project title, audience, and genre. Choose how much of the term it spans — the course-scope picker turns that into a chapter count (2–20), which you can fine-tune.
- Generate the Arc Bible — the semester-long through-line, the cast, and a chapter outline. Review it and lock it in.
- Lock the cast so every chapter uses the same characters and voices.
- Open the Supersonic build. It automatically fills each chapter from your case study (you’ll see “We filled N of M chapters…”). You can replace any chapter’s source, or leave it.
- Start Auto-Build — it builds every chapter in sequence and gives you a combined download at the end.
You get: A full set of chapters — each a playable scenario — plus one combined download.
- The Arc Bible decides what each chapter is about and pulls the matching material from your case study for you — you don’t split the file by chapter yourself.
- A per-chapter upload is an optional override, not a required step. Most courses just let the auto-fill do it.
- Source isn’t kept after you leave, and chapter count is 2–20.
Infographics / Micro
Turn a single chapter or reading into a packet of short visual lessons.
- Upload a chapter or excerpt and give it a title and a learning goal.
- Review the concept map the app pulls out of it — add, edit, or remove concepts to steer the lessons.
- Generate — and get a packet of short visual lessons built from that material.
You get: A downloadable packet of visual micro-lessons.
- It works best on fact-dense material (statistics, timelines, cause-and-effect).
- The concept map is editable before you generate, so you can shape what the lessons cover.
Guided
Answer a few questions and get a complete case study — no uploads needed.
- Fill in the short form — a title, the learning goal, the premise, the audience, and any instructor notes.
- Generate, then review the result. Adjust the premise or notes and regenerate as many times as you like.
- Build the interactive view, or download it.
You get: A complete interactive case study you can play or download.
- Best when you have a clear idea but no source documents to upload.
- The more detail you put in the instructor notes, the richer the result.
Write Your Own
Hand-author a case study from a template — full control, no AI.
- Pick a format (email, chat, news feed, infographic, timeline, table, and more) and download its starter template.
- Fill the template in — each format includes a field guide so you know what goes where.
- Upload it back, and it loads straight into the viewer.
You get: Your hand-authored scenario, shown in the viewer.
- No AI is involved — this is for when you want exact, hand-built control.
- The file has to be valid; a malformed file won’t load, so keep the template’s structure intact.
Common questions
Which pathway should I use?
- Single Narrative: one case study built from one source.
- Full Semester: a whole course as one connected story.
- Infographics / Micro: short visual lessons from a single chapter.
- Guided: a complete case study when you have no documents to upload.
- Write Your Own: full, hand-built manual control.
If you’re unsure, the recommender on the Create page will point you to one.
Is my uploaded material saved?
No — your source is only kept for the current session and isn’t stored after you leave a project. Download your project file to resume later. (This is deliberate — your material isn’t retained on our side.)
How large a file can I upload?
Up to 10 MB per file, and you can add several. Very large documents are handled, but an extremely large one may be trimmed before it’s used.
For a full semester, do I upload a file for every chapter?
No. The app reads your whole case study and automatically gives each chapter the parts that fit it. Uploading a file for a specific chapter is an optional override.
How many chapters can a semester course have?
Between 2 and 20. You set it with the course-scope picker, or by typing a number.
Can I edit what the AI generates?
Yes. Most pathways let you revise and regenerate, and you can export a project, edit the text (for example in Word), and re-import it.
